Maybe it has been explained already but what does "mixer message" mean? Thanks for all the help!!!!

Check out the FAQ. It basically limits the message from being transmitted over the entire net.

Mixer off messege means the repeater is being turned off.  The signal from the Brooklyn field units is on 153.95MHz and can be heard locally on that frequency over a relatively short distance.  The repeaters pickup that signal and send it by landline to headquarters where it is rebroadcast at high power on 154.37MHz, where everyone can hear it.  These messeges usually contain info about what was found at a 10-41 or info on injured members etc.  A secure cell phone link would of course make more sense but is not always practical.

Usually the dispatcher will inform the entire borough that the mixer is off.... you'll hear "All units in the borough of ------- 10-6 unless urgent for a mixer off message. (pause) (Unit requesting the M/O) the mixer is off, go ahead..."
