If we are requested mutual aid by Yonkers, or any city in Westchester County, the request has to be made to the Chief of Department, or Citywide Tour Commander, who then receives permission from the COD. We have to get specifics, as to what they want, or need.
In my 13 plus years on the job, we have sent out mutual aid to Yonkers at least twice that I know of. Bronx River Road, and another time on the west side. I also remember a fire in Eastchester or Pelham that we sent mutual aid to in either late 1997, or early 1998. Units are to be assigned to the specific mutual aid boxes that have been listed here previously. They are then directed to the city line, where they are to be escorted to the scene. It's very rare that FDNY relocates, which was actually the original request in both the Pelham, and Bronx River Road fires. Yonkers does tend to get mutual aid from other paid departments in Westchester before they call FDNY. (NOT A ZING!!! Just an observation!!!!!)
Mention has been made of the Saw Mill, Deegan, Bronx River, etc. I will also throw in the Hutch and 95. The only box we have that is automatic aid with Yonkers is on the BRP. It's an engine, truck, and chief from our side. 2 engines, a truck, rescue, and a chief from there side. (Off the top of my head, E-313, 307 or 314??, L-73, R-1 and Bn-2)
Now, as a former Bronx guy, if I saw a box going out on any of the highways, and the incident was near the city line, I would give either Yonkers, or 60 Control(Westchester Fire Dispatch) a heads up and ask them to turn out Yonkers, Pelham, New Ro, or whoever the closest was on their side of the city line, as we weren't always sure whose side it was on. I would also make a point to have the Battalion Chief responding notified that Westchester County/Yonkers was notified and is responding as well. Doesn't hurt to make a phone call.
Now as far as who responded to the Bronx River Road fire from our end?? 63,38,72 with the Satellite, 75, 56 Truck, 41 Truck, 39 Truck, 51 Truck, 69 Engine, 30 Truck(Long Story) Field Comm, the 19 Battalion, I think Division 7, and whoever the Citywide Tour Commander was. Feel free to fill in the blanks of who I missed.
