mutual aid to the city, and fdny sending out mutual aid

In April, 1987 the FDNY sent FDNY Members to Bridgeport, Ct some 60 miles away to assist in a building collapse. You can read more about it in History, "My Younger Buff Years". (page 62, reply # 922).

While I was on vacation, FDNY was requested mutual aid to Bayonne for a pier fire. Marine 9 responded and operated. Marine 1 was S/C and turned around.

are they for fire, ems,pd,or just for everyone agency in the city??

I'm not big on the technical stuff, but, the only mutual aid frequency I know, or knew of was a statewide one, 45.88 Mhz. I don't even know if it's still used.

The NYC MAC channels are the former NYPD Interoperability channels. NYC has developed this system so that there will be a network in counties in NYS so far surrounding NYC.  There are a few transmitters installed on Long Island for the system & others in the lower Hudson Valley for public safety agencies. MAC 1 has been used in NYC for major events.

45.88 is a NY state wide freq for use between county communications facilities for the fire service. It is also used by NYS Fire Safety staff.

There are other Mutual Aid channels in use in the NYC area. Some are in the 800's, others are in the 400's range.
155.37 is used in NYS for police agencies. NJ has a 4 channel statewide mutual aid radio system known as SPEN for public safety communications.

I can remember a General Alarm fire in Yonkers back in the early 90's that required mutal aid responses from multiple surrounding cities which included the FDNY. Nepperhan Ave and Saw Mill River Road. I believe the FDNY sent a first alarm assignment with the addition of the Satellite. It was a HUGE Mill type series of factory buildings that went up. I must have burned up a dozen or so rolls of film on that fire.

This was the (Alexander Smith) "Carpet Shop" fire, I was working..... As far as I know, FDNY E81/TL46 was in on M/A  responding on runs in Yonkers, but not at the job.

Mount Vernon had thier old Seagrave TDA, former FDNY #SL7914, at the job. White Plains, Greenville, New Rochelle, MV all at the job.

As far as Mutal Aide Communications. FDNY has started to add all the UTAC channels to our radios.  Chiefs and higher have the MAC channels.

UTAC is nice becuase it's nation wide. If we went to boston today, you could talk from an FDNY radio to a Boston radio.

So lets say Yonkers calls fdny for mutual aid, what frequency should we listen to hear the units that are beign dispatched??

Listen to the Bronx. You'll probably hear us giving the location of the fire in Yonkers to the responding BC, plus their rundown, and where they are to meet the rep from YFD.

If it was on the West Side of Yonkers & YFD Calls for FDNY M/A it would probably be , Battalion 27 Engine 81 , 79 , 75 ? & Ladders 46 & 37. For the East side around 313/73 in Yonkers it could be Either Battalion 15 or 27 again because 15 is at 66/61 for now , Engine 63 , 62 , 38 , Ladders 39 & 32
