Lillian Bonsignore has been sworn in as the 37th Fire Commissioner
She was appointed as an EMT in 1991, and assigned to Station 14 in the South Bronx, before moving on to become a instructor for the CFR Program at the EMS Academy, in which she responded in a convoy of other EMS Members from Fort Totten to the World Trade Center n September 11th where she took part in rescue and recovery efforts. In 2005 she became a Lieutenant before becoming a Paramedic Lieutenant in 2007. In 2010 she was promoted to Captain and served in Brooklyn before being promoted to Deputy Chief in 2013, first serving in Queens before returning to the academy. She was appointed the Chief of the EMS Academy in 2016, where she was responsible for the education and recertification of nearly 13,000 members of the FDNY. In 2019, Bonsignore was appointed by Commissioner Nigro as the Chief of EMS, becoming the first female to achieve 4 stars in the history of the FDNY.
Commissioner Bonsignore has also graduated from the FDNY Fire Officers Management Institute, the Naval Post Graduate School-Executive Leadership, FDNY/USMA Counterterrorism leadership-Combating Terrorism, TEEX-EMS Operations and Planning for Weapons of Mass Destruction, and multiple National Incident Management systems courses.
