House fire in Newport News leaves two people dead

A house fire in Newport News left two people dead early Friday morning, according to the Newport News Fire Department.

"At approximately 0200 hours this morning in the 100 block of Cindy Circle, the NNFD responded to a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, the crews found the structure fully involved in flames. Initial deployment of lines was attempted; however, due to two structural collapses, exterior operations had to be initiated.
Fire crews on scene worked effortlessly to extinguish the flames from a defensive position. Once the fire was knocked down to an operable position, fire crews began completing internal extinguishment. Three occupants were able to make it out of the home safely. Unfortunately, two occupants did not make it out of the home. Currently, the fire continues to be under investigation.
