From the NNFD:
"Earlier today, Newport News Fire Department responded to the 00 block of Dimmock Ave for a residential structure fire. On arrival crews had heavy smoke and fire throughout the interior of the home.
Crews quickly deployed multiple handlines for an aggressive interior fire attack while other firefighters simultaneously conducted a primary search to ensure all occupants were out of the home. Additional crews performed vertical ventilation to improve interior conditions and support suppression efforts.
Due to today's extreme heat, a full first-alarm assignment was supplemented with four additional units to ensure firefighter safety and allow for the rotation of crews operating in the challenging conditions.
Fortunately, the resident heard their smoke alarms, discovered smoke, and safely evacuated before firefighters arrived. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation."
