Old and New Apparatus Pictures

Yes, anytime L38 received a spare, after a thorough washing, we decorated the rig with stars above the bumper on the cab. It was our tradition and  funny to see action shots from all over the city in various publications that had rigs with stars.

Maybe, but the cemetery might not be in 38's district. Any guesses?
L38 might have been relocated to L39 when L39 was still in the old FH across from Woodlawn Cemetery.

You may have it fdce54.  The stone blocks below Woodlawn's fencing seem to match those in the rearmount photo

Very cool deductions!...backing into the old L39 quarters was very difficult, it was the last wood frame FDNY firehouse... the firehouse apparatus bays was flush with the street, but a few feet in it angled to the left and you had to cut the steering wheel sharp once the back end of the rig was in quarters or you would hit the outside wall. Not very difficult for a tiller, but challenging for a RM. Funny how times have changed, during my time L39 was a very quiet sleepy company. Today they are very active with fire duty!..
