Older Batt SUV question

what is the chrome thing on the hood of older chiefs cars? all i know about it is the 1994 SUV order was the last order to have them.

Looks like a Mars light to me . . . can anybody confirm that?

Confirmed...that is an oscillating "Mars" light.  The 1997 - 2003 Battalion vehicles had the white oscillating light in the center of the lightbar, replacing the metal siren speaker cover (the siren speaker had actually already been mounted on the front bumper for years).
