FDNY has operated with many federal, volunteer and industrial fire departments within NYC during its history.  Some are still active. Others, like the NY Fire Patrol, are now disbanded.  Some agencies in NYC have firefighting capabilities. Some of these departments responded with FDNY.  Some were trained by FDNY.  Most had protocols with FDNY.

Here are some of these departments and agencies (I know I have missed a lot):

Independent - NY Fire Patrol; United Nations FD

Volunteer - Rockaway Point FD; Edgewater Park VFD; West Hamilton Beach FD; Gerrittsen Beach FD; Oceanic H&L Co 1; Broad Channel VFD; Richmond Eng Co 1; Aviation VFD; Roxbury VFD; Point Breeze VFD

Other Agencies - Corrections; Port Authority; NYPD; Triborough Bridge Tunnel ?

Federal: National Park Service; USCG

Military (disbanded): Bklyn Navy Yard FD; Floyd Bennett Field FD; Governor's Island FD; Ft Totten FD ?; Ft Wadsworth FD?; Ft Hamilton FD?; Miller Field FD?; Sheepshead Bay Maritime Service Training Station FD?

Special - 1939 NY World's Fair FD; 1964 World's Fair FD

Industrial - ?

1939 NY Worlds Fair FD (formed as part of FDNY):  The 55th Battalion was organized on September 5, 1938, for the sole purpose of protection life and property at the Fair. Its personnel consisted of 3 Battalion Chiefs, 14 company officers and 70 firemen assigned to one double and two single engine companies.  It was supplemented with 65 "fire guards" - retired FDNY members.  In 32 months, units had 237 runs, 166 fires.

1964 NY Worlds Fair Fire Dept (not part of FDNY):  100 former FDNY members; 3 pumpers; 1 rescue truck

i find it very interesting that the worlds fair units are running all blue lights. i wonder what happened to those trucks. and does anyone know what corrections is using now? considering that those pictures are 11 years old I'm guessing that there fleet would have changed quite a bit since then

As a kid I remember attending the 1964 Worlds Fair. Never knew that they had their own Fire Dept. If I had known that then, I probadly would have spent most of my time there. Also I really never knew of some of these Other Fire Depts. But still, there's ONLY ONE FDNY.

Fort Hamilton has no firefighting assets provided by the US Gov.  Governor's Island had an Engine supplied by the Coast Guard.
