Radio problems with UHF radios.

To my ear it doesn't sound so much like "static" as it seems that the built in MIC in the radio is open and picking up the sound of the item hanging on the side of the radio.  (The built in MIC should cut out when a SPKR/MIC is connected.)  If running some noisy but non-metallic object...like hairbrush... on the radio produced the same result I'd be more sure that it's the MIC.

Otherwise, that's weird!

I made the video. It's not audio being picked up, it's a known problem with the radios.  Motorola has a fix for some models.  You can even hang the keys there and not move them and still get the problem.

Any idea what Motorola's fix is, or what they say is going on?

What would be some of the situations in which a reserve engine or ladder woud be put into service? Do they call OT members to fill in the company?
