Not sure where to post this. Romer Shoal is actually in New Jersey, but it appears that 90% of the effort was from FDNY and NYPD, so I don't think "Metro NYC Area" is the place to put it. Also, the shoal is about the same distance from Breezy Point as it is from Staten Island, and for that matter, the Battery. So here it is, from the FDNY Facebook page:

"FDNY Marine 6 and Marine 9, along with the U.S. Coast Guard and NYPD Aviation Unit, responded to a capsized 30’ sailboat near Romer Shoal around 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Rough wave conditions, wind and darkness made this a complicated operation that required teamwork to rescue the four occupants, who were clinging to the capsized vessel.
With an NYPD helicopter lighting their way, members of the USCG vessel struggled to get close to the victims due to robust wind and wave activity. They managed to land a throw line and were able to bring two of the victims in. Meanwhile, Marine 6 maneuvered close to the capsized vessel, and Firefighter Carlton Hilliard who was tethered to M6, swam to the two remaining victims. One victim was in visible distress because his personal flotation device had failed to inflate. FF Hilliard assisted the one with the failed flotation device, and both were pulled to safety. Marine 9 then rescued the fourth victim.
“Because it was on the shoal, the water just keeps breaking all around, making for really rough conditions. I give a lot of credit to Marine 6 pilot Scott Forget, because he was fighting the conditions the whole time,” said Lieutenant Tom Guerriere of Marine 6. “This was a situation where everyone had to do their job and it was a great cooperative effort.”
