A Facebook post by the San Francisco Fire Department states that their Engine 3 did 10,616 total runs last year. Something for discussion.

San Diego put Engine 80 in service at Engine 4's station. Eng. 4 averaged 25 runs per day. Eng. 80 is on duty from 8am to 8pm.

That's an incredible number of runs. It seems that debates arise from time to time as to who the busiest engine companies in America are, so I did some digging on this topic today and wanted to share some statistics. The busiest engine companies in FDNY currently do between 6,000 and 7,500 runs per year. No matter which engine you look at, their share of medical runs is pretty steady at approximately 50-55% medical responses, or, in other words, 45-50% non-medical calls such as fires and emergencies. Out of curiosity I wanted to see how San Fransisco compares. For the department as a whole, approximately 76% of all calls for service are medical. For Engine 3 specifically, around 65% of their calls are medical. This works out to 3,715 non-medical runs. For comparison, FDNY's top engine in 2022, E290, had 3,494 non-medical runs.
