Flooding has inundated the south shore communities of Nassau County. Hundreds of requests for water rescues have overtaxed emergency services in the area. Flooding seems to be most severe in Long Beach, Island Park, Freeport, East Rockaway, and Inwood. The Long Beach line of the LIRR has been shut down due to flooding.

From the East Rockaway FD Facebook page:

East Rockaway Fire Department posted a local alert for East Rockaway.
·
The Department has been responding to multiple water rescues within the village since 5am. Please do not drive through standing water.
The Department is currently on a Storm Standby to ensure adequate response for any emergency during the storm. We are being assisted by Bayville Fire Company No. 1, Inc., Village of East Rockaway OEM and DPW, and the Office of the Fire Marshal - County of Nassau. We ask that all residents avoid standing water, and be mindful of electrical issues in flooded vehicles and residences.
