Primary Fire Dept was Sparta/Allegheny VFD. Mutual Aid from Glade Creek NC, Twin Oaks NC, Galax VA, Independence VA, more. Sparta is roughly 10 miles southwest of Galax, Virginia.

As a side note: Two 40 year old ladder trucks responded to this fire, as you can see from the photos. First is a 1987 Ford C/Boardman/Redi-Tower 75' rig from Sparta/Allegheny VFD, while the other is a 1988 Ford C/Pierce/TeleSqurt 50' rig from the Glade Creek VFD. Both of these trucks remain as first-line apparatus, and their age is common among rural North Carolina departments. Thanks to Mike Legeros for the photos.
