Seen a picture of this rig! Is this a new special unit in the F.D.N.Y. fleet? What does it get used for and what kind of runs does it respond to.

Do you know what any of the specification for it are?  If they're going to get that many of them it seems like the most have big plans for them.  Just large caliber foam operations and brush fires doesn't sound like enough usage to justify them.

What about them being used to feed an emergency water main in the event of a catastrophic failure of our water supply system? ???

The vehicle discussed is part of the Department's Auxiliary Water System designed to replace damaged city water mains in major catastrophes.  The system can also be used for large scale dewatering operations.  The truck is a 2011 Kenworth T370 , equipped with a Stellar Industries Shuttle Hooklift system.  The pumping unit is powered by a 200 hp Diesel engine and utilizes a floating hydraulic pump with output ranging from 1320  to 2905 GPM depending on pressure.

The system uses 8-inch hose leading to a wye with two six-inch Storz outlets to supply two 2000 GPM pumpers.  Additional self-contained pumping systems are available and can be transported on Department hooklift trucks.  Satellites and airport hose wagons have been issued six-inch LDH.

Not positive but i would think they will maintain both second pieces.

Certainly seems likely would maintain both pieces considering they have extremely different purposes.  Actually it seems like it would be more in line with operations if the pumps were put with the Satellites because that's where most of the hose for them is!

More info on these in the latest Nov-Dec-2011 issue of Fire  Apparatus Journal. One unit is at Rescue 3 (Bx), the second at E159 (S.I.), and the third one is mounted on the Kenworth at Special Operations Command Hqtrs.

Why not quarter/pair them with the existing Satellite Companies and their paired engine companies? (E009/ST01, E072/ST02, E284/ST03, E324/ST04, E159/ST05, E207/ST06)
