I ran across a photo on Engine 310's site of a Mack with a Squirt operating. I am curious how many Squirt companies there were and who they were.

There was also one of these Squirts assigned to E71 in 1971, then it went to I think E68 when E71 got a Rapid Water unit and then went to E43 who used it until getting the 1975 Mack Rapid Water unit that was Squad 1's rig until Squad 1 was disbanded in the Bronx. What happened to the Squirt after that I do not know.

I vaguely recall one of them on Staten Island for a while, possibly out in Tottenville when E151/L76 were merged into a "CFC" (Combination Fire Company). They were CFC-131.

CFC's are another curiosity in and of themselves.

I also believe the one from E43 went to E-70 on city island when then also became a CFC

Mac8146, I don't think E43 had a Squirt. possibly E71 was the Squirt that went E70. I am trying to check my sources.

When the rig went to E70 the articulating boom was replaced by a straight boom

Best of my memory, there were two Squirts. The one at Eng 310 was a Mack with straight boom. Then the one in the Bronx was an articulating boom. I believe as others said; it was at engine 43 first then Engine 71. That rig may have been an American LaFrance. When it went to Eng 70, I believe it was the Mack with the straight boom. As far as I remember, these were the only two.

E-71 and E-310 both had 1970 Mack CF's with 54 ft. articulating booms. The one that went to City Island E-70 was retrofitted in 1976 with a 55 ft. ladder on a telescoping straight boom, aka: Telesquirt.

E71 went to E43 then retrofitted to E70
E310 also had one which later became a foam unit

E-70 went upstate to Lake Carmel, NY in 1987. From there it went to Wall, PA in 1992. From there it went to Texas, but I'm not sure where.

Wow.  Never saw that photo.  Hard to find oldtimers who remember that rig.  Never saw a photo of it in quarters.

Did FDNY ever look at the Bronto Skylifts made by E-One they can be up to 200' in stead of the 95' Tower Ladders just asking?

Some of the truckies in this group can answer better than me, but I think the Brontos have at least two problems that really turn FDNY off . . . the size of the apparatus would make it very difficult to operate (and position) on NYC streets, and the spread of the outriggers would make them hard to set up just about anywhere in NYC.

FDNY experimented with 150 foot European-style ladders in the late 60's (High Ladders 1 & 2), but gave up on them very quickly, and removed the Magirus ladders in favor of 100 ft Groves.
