How about a few of those Soul Groups.... The Spinners, Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Supremes, The O'Jays, The Stylistics.

And how about we go back to Murray the "K" on a swinging swaray, with a Blast from the Past. Or Cousin Brucie.

How about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jay and the Americans, or back further to The Platters and "Only You". Or the Diamonds with their hit "Little Darling".

How about some of those Girl Groups. The Shirilles and their "Soldier Boy". The Angels with "My boyfriends back". The Chiffons and "One Fine Day".

And how about the guys like Paul Anka singing about a girl named "Diana". Or Bobby Vintin with his "Roses are Red" hit.

  And the King Himself....Elvis.

How many remember when we dialed the AM car radio to our favorite channel and played some of these. My favorite was "77 WABC".

The greatest rock and roll band, aka "The Rolling stones" relied heavily on the blues singer, such as Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley. And my wife remebers using the disk insert for a 45, record not gun. Nice to be able to post about the "old times" love the internet, but guys have posted at night on the porch "stoop" listening to the Yankees, the Red Sox on an AM radio. Too damn bad we could not combine the best of the 60's with today. GG

G-man, maybe some of the guys don't know but Yes, you have played as part of the band in many of the groups we are talking about. G-man knows many of the guys on a personnel and first name basis.

But we are still waiting to get G-man to play at "Willy Ds Rock and Roll Piano Bar". www.willydspianobar.com (go down to the lower left and join in singing the Willy D jingle).

Mike Kelly lead singer of the "DUPREES" Passes on...RIP......
Wake for Michael Kelly, former Duprees lead singer, Tuesday in Jersey City
Published: Friday, August 10, 2012, 3:00 AM
Aiyana Cronk/The Jersey Journal By Aiyana Cronk/The Jersey Journal

Michael Kelly, one of the singers of the 1960s Jersey City doo-wop group The Duprees, died Tuesday in his North Carolina home from a series of slow-developing health complications, according to his family.

?It?s a sad day for the doo-wop nation and the thousands of fans of my dad,? said his son Joel Kelly.

Michael Kelly, who had recorded on The Duprees original demos for George Paxton, replaced Joey Vann as lead vocalist in 1964 and formally left the group in 1977, his son said.

?The first time that I heard his voice was in 1961, when he sang lead for us,? said Tom Bigalow, an original member of The Duprees.

?Whenever I would do any singing I would concentrate on my note intensely. But the first time I heard Mike?s voice he would break my concentration so much that I would almost want to stop to listen to him sing.?

?I know what mattered most to him. It was being understood and loved. Being ?Mikey,? ? said Joel Kelly, adding the title that most fit him was ?The Natural.?

?I wish he could have experienced a normal, at peace life after the stage . . . He sure knew how to make us laugh,? Kelly said.

Michael Kelly is survived by two daughters, Dawn Herbin and Laruna ?Cookie? Lambert; a son, Joel Kelly, two granddaughters, Aja Herbin and Iman Daniels; a grandson, Donahue Herbin; and a great-grandson, Satoru Sturdivant Jr.

A wake service will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Funeral Home, 274 Danforth Ave., Jersey City. All floral arrangements should arrive between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. For information, call (201) 333-8000.

How about the Bronx Belmont Ave Group singing about a girl named "Sue", called "Keep away from Run-Around Sue" called Dion and the Belmonts.

Also, maybe somebody knows. I went to a Doo Wop show a few years ago and Bouser (spelling ?.....remember him from Brooklyn) announced one group who had a member who worked a career as a NYC Police Officer and retired. Anybody know who that is ?

As I see it, we had the Best. We had the very Best Music and it was the Best of Times to be a Firefighter, or a Fire Buff. And if you weren't a part of it, you just won't understand.

But for the Baby Boomer Generation, Our War in Viet Nam took the lives of so many and caused permanet damage to our military members who saw action there. Very few got Thanks. We still owe them for their sacriface. I wasn't there, but I won't forget and I won't forget my buddy Ron Hisney (spelling ?) who never came back.

I know many members on this site were a part of that War. It was a tough place to be. Thanks guys for being there and serving Our Country.

That is it "Lucky". Thank you. Now I remember. The Capri's were one of the groups playing at the show and Bouser had said. "one member just retired from the New York City Police Dept".

Thanks Guy, that was bugging me.

Yes, lead singer Nick Santo aka: The DooWop Cop. Unfortunately Nick passed away over a year ago. He had been ill for years with a lung removed. His wife was his caregiver for years and within 2 weeks of his passing she suddenly passed away. One of the members of "Midnite Rose" band that I play with is Tony Sergi who has been a member of the Capris for almost 30 years. Another DooWop cop is Emile Stucchio of the Classics know for their hit, "'Til Then". John Bauser puts on some nice shows up at the Casinos in Ct.

That was Nick Santomaria, who worked in the 112 Pct. in Queens and later at Queens Central Booking. Unfortunately, he recently passed away. "There's A Moon Out Tonight", "Morse Code Of Love" among their great songs.

A few months back I was spinning some old lp's on my 1975 vintage Thorens turntable when my son and his friend came in and I heard the friend ask my son what the turntable was and my wise ass son replied "That's just my father taking a stroll down memory lane."

Just an FYI, I may only be 38, a pup compared to some of you, but I do know what a 45 is and owned quite a few in my younger years. That was before my sister used them to practice her frisbee technique.

Ha, ha, ha, ha...........that's what the ex-wife used my lp's for when my kids were young. Love hearing those scratches now.
