As we prepare for our maiden voyage to Boston Harbor for a week of tours and special events for the National Fire Prevention Association, we remember the early morning collision and fire involving the container ship SEA WITCh and the oil tanker ESSO BRUSSELS that happened early on June 1st into June 2nd, FIRE FIGHTER and her crew earned the Gallant Ship Award and Seamanship decorations for bravery, an honor by the Maritime Administration rarely given to government service vessels. Arguably FIRE FIGHTER's "Finest Hour", both ship and crew performed admirably rescuing 31 souls amongst what must of seemed like a floating piece of hell. On this day we honor our veterans who went into battle with a fire that surely tested their skills and bravery.
