UFA HISTORY.

According to released Kings County Grand Jury records, and US Senate Kefauver Committee testimony, UFA President John Crane handed Mayor William O'Dwyer $10,000 in an envelope at Gracie Mansion in October,1949. Anybody know....was this related (other than in time) to the huge decrease in work hours and increase in pay and vacation time that happened between 1946 and 1949? Thanks
 
There's no mention of the recall system back in the 40's and 50's. A member lived in the firehouse for days or weeks during major snow storms. Did I mention that they didn't get paid for the additional time?
