*** WEDNESDAY 10:30AM UPDATE ***

The fire is unfortunately still going. The rain bought us time, and made a dent, but fire crews are thinking this will be burning for some time. The ground was VERY dry and the fire is deep down in the peat moss-like organic matter underneath. The rain, while helpful, also makes conditions slippery on already difficult terrain. Our crews are tired, but have been bolstered by the INCREDIBLE community, far and wide, who have supported them.
**AT THIS TIME NO MORE DONATIONS ARE NEEDED**
The response the last few days has been SO overwhelming that there are mountains of supplies at our local firehouses. (The photo is just one of them, at the Napanoch Firehouse, this morning.)
If anything changes, and they need ANYTHING, they will let us know, and we'll inform the community.

The fire is still raging. We are on site at the Kimble Firehouse at Berme Rd Park.
This is what is NEEDED NOW:
Individually-wrapped snacks - please nothing home baked, goods that can withstand heat are best
Paper plates, plastic silverware, ziplock bags!
And PLEASE DROP OFF OR INSTACART TO Napanoch Firehouse, 25 Plank Rd, Napanoch, 12458

Wildfires Rage On
The Napanoch Point Fire is about 30% contained according to one weary firefighter’s estimation.

The Napanoch Point fire has grown to an estimated 270 acres. Due to changing fire and weather conditions, containment is unknown at this time.
Yesterday, two Blackhawk helicopters conducted 82 bucket drops. Two New York State Police helicopters conducted 87 bucket drops.
More than 200 firefighters, led by DEC Forest Rangers, are working on the three fires in the complex.…

Minnewaska State Park Preserve remains closed at least through Labor Day weekend.

I Lived for awhile in the Hamlet of Wallkill/ Town of Shawangunk (Ulster), and visited this area - I can Assure You, it is the absolute
'Middle of Nowhere'. I used to have a shirt that read 'Where the Hell is Kerhonkson?'[ Rte.44 & 209]

Up there often. Towns such as Gardiner, Marlboro and on the other side of the river in Dutchess too. Mohonk Mtn. House is a nice drive.
