"69mets", that picture certainly tells the story. I think I mentioned it one time before, but shortly after 9/11 my wife and I had gone to a show to see some of our favorite singing groups. Somehow I got talking to this guy who was on the job in Ladder 15. He looked in Great Shape. But he told me he has trouble breathing now after 9/11. I watched this guy climb Four Steps. He had to stop and catch his breathe.
Here's a young guy maybe in his early 30s, who used to run up flights of stairs wearing all that heavy equipment, then actually go to work when he reached the fire floor or above. I now watched this guy struggle to get up Four Steps. We had lost 3,000 people that day, but I later learned that the count continues to grow.
Any Politican that refuses to protect these heros needs to reevaluate their decision. These are the people we need to protect, just as they have protected us. Many are still paying a very steep price out there. We just can't let them down.

I am under the impression that today (November 19, 2010) that an Agreement was signed to set up a fund of 625 million dollars to help those 9/11 responders that are affected by the air quality at Ground Zero. I also believe that an additional 75 million dollars could become available should the need arise.
No amount of money can ever replace Good Health. Those firefighters and other workers are paying a steep price Everyday, even with Every Breathe they take. But if it is True, that an agreement has been reached, it should help cover some of the Huge Expenses needed.

Occasionally some good news comes out of Washington. Many thanks to the brave men and women who responded on that infamous day, who derserve and  need this help, as well as those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.  Thank you!!

And now it has passed 206-60 in the House, sending it to the White House for signature.

I understand that a plan needed to be in place to pay for this, considering a unanimous Senate vote, but I can't imagine what was in the minds of the 60 holdouts.    "Sometimes you've just got to do what you've got to do".  Thanks to those 206 representatives.

Would love to see a list of the 60 holdouts.  Anyone?

It's available - get the bill number and you can go to the Congressional website or call your representative's office and ask them to send the voting results to you

Eric Cantor from Virginia is a typical "no vote" on this and other related issues.

Vern Buchanan (R. 13th District, Fl.) Voted 'No' every time the bill was brought up ... except when it finally won approval in the House because he didn't vote at all this time. Why? Apparently he was one of the many who chose to go home while Congress was still in session to celebrate the holidays. I spoke to him in person about the bill in 2009 and he informed me that it was a "local New York issue." My answer to him was, "Really? The largest terrorist attack on American soil is a "Local issue?" I continued to e-mail and call his staffers. He never responded and never stopped voting no. His campaign for office stated that he is a supporter of first responders and he was endorsed by the I.A.F.F. local in this area in his 2010 re-election bid. I tried to notify the I.A.F.F. about his stance on the bill before his re-election, but they wouldn't speak to me. They said they don't represent me because I'm a retired F.D.N.Y. Firefighter. I have e-mailed all of this info to whatever local firefighters I know. Hopefully they'll be pissed off and get the word out that this phony doesn't have their back & just wants their votes.

"69Mets", I've had the privilage to talk to you a few times on the phone. I know that you worked in some of the Busiest Companies in the FDNY. You have more than paid your dues, just like many others on here have. I'd just like to tell a little of your story ( although I never discussed saying anything about this, and I hope he's okay with it). My hope is that people will understand in a small way, just what one of these 9/11 responders go through. And as he told me, there are many worse cases.
"69Mets" was injuried when a ceiling came down on him and as a result suffers serious back pain everyday. Of course he responded to Ground Zero when he and all the rest of those First responders were needed. They were told the air is "SAFE". (How many of us remember that lie ???). As a result he suffered lung damage that only seems to get worse. He also has severe sinus problems.
Recently, he had to fly some 1200 miles back to NYC for his physical evaluation. According to "THEIR Test" I believe he was told "No Problems". But a Lung Specialist in his home area has quite a different story to tell.
Here's a Guy that fought fires in some of the busiest areas of the World for a living. Spent about 21 years doing it. Then responded to the Worst Attack this Country ever faced, was lied to, and is fighting in every way he can to try and get the Medical care that Our Country OWES these First Responder Hero's. And here's a guy who used to run 5 miles every day. Probadly couldn't run 50 feet now.
Not only can't we trust our politicians, who we put in office for our protection, but we may not even be able to trust the IAFF who are supposed to protect ALL IAFF Members.
"69Mets" always refers to me as A Brother. And Brothers stick together. As Brothers, we need to fight every step of the way for the 9/11 First Responders like "69Mets" who were there when we needed them most. We can't let them down. We just can't trust the people that are supposed to be there protecting them, and we need to do something about it.
