Description: Heavy smoke in the station with multiple aided and req. for MCI units

1540hrs- Co's rpt heavy smoke from the station

1549hrs- 2nd Alarm. Multiple calls for people trapped on trains.

1555hrs- Transit PD rpt evacuation point at Maine X 9th SE open and removing people ATT.

1605hrs- DCFD MCI units to the scene. EMS CMD req. M/A EMS. Setting up triage.

1645hrs- Working Fire Dispatch for 1400 A St SE, E-18 has fire showing from a 2-story occupied dwelling.

1705hrs- M/A EMS from Prince George, Fairfax and Mont.Co enroute or at scene. MPD, Transit PD and FBI on scene.

1730hrs- EMS rpts approx. (200) through triage, (84) transported. (1) Fatality, (2) Critical, (1) injured firefighter.

Smoke condition forced the evacuation of L'Enfant Plaza subway station.  One of the busiest Metro stations in Downtown DC fulled with smoke about 4pm.  After all popl were evacuated DC Fire & EMS continued to look for the cause.  One person was killed and others were taken to the hospital.for treatment.  Videos contnue to be posted.on YouTube as event unfold.
 
Fairfax County sent 5 engines, 1 medic (maybe more), and 1 chief to DC incident:  E405, E422, E423, E428, E426, BC404, M 402  (FXCFD engine companies are paramedic engines)
 
Heard that DCFD changed over to new portable radios recently and that there were significant communications issues on this incident.  One of the problems was that they encrypted their tactical channels and mutual aid units were unable to communicate with DC Commanders / Units.

Sounds as though Jim Carrey & Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber) may have been the decision makers on the encryption project.  ::)
 
Dumb and Dumber are actually a guy named Quander who was some sort of Deputy Mayor and Former Chief Ellerbee.

The new mayor just rook office a week or so ago.  She seems squared away but not sure about who see will select to lead the FDDC.  The guy acting now seems to have a least a clue and the bar set by Ellerbe for him to make improvements was pretty low.
