engines/ladders/squads/rescues is it the officers or the lieutenants

While in route in the chief's wagons, it's usually the chief since the aid is driving.  This way the chief can be in contact with the units on the scene and developing his plans.  In all of the engines, trucks, rescues, etc. it's whose ever in the right front seat, usually in lieutenant but possibly a captain.

Responding it would be the officer of each unit.
Once on scene it then would be come the Aide/Chauffeur of each unit if the officer is out of the rig.
