Subject: Protecting Our Nation’s Treasures.

Presenter:
Elliot Paisner - Paisner, an Eagle Scout, is majoring in Fire Protection Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park in the A. James Clark School of Engineering. He is a 4th-generation volunteer firefighter serving and volunteering with the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad in Prince George’s County. Currently he is a student member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers UMD Chapter and serves as the chapter’s Vice President.

Over the summer of 2023, Paisner interned for the Smithsonian Office of Safety, Health, and Environmental Management in the Fire Protection Division. As part of Paisner’s work, he had the opportunity to complete a Wildland Urban Interface study on the National Zoological Park – Rock Creek Campus in downtown Washington DC.

Topic: For his presentation on February 6th, Elliot Paisner will begin with a brief overview of the Fire Protection Division of the Smithsonian Institute; and the unique challenges they face protecting the Nation’s Treasures before sharing his experiences and findings from the National Zoo Project.
