Don't have much info yet working a 4th Alarm Fire Union St @ State St.

Guilford Fire requested on the 4th Alarm. Very long ride for Guilford

Looks like 35 Union Street, Crocker House Apartments.

That is correct.
Fire was located at 35 Union St known as the Crocker House Apartments.
The building is a five-story brick and contains 81 apartments

At 5:33 pm the Norwich Fire Departments Battalion 1 and Truck 1 was requested as the FAST Co on the 2nd alarm.
However, the fire quickly escalated to a 4th alarm with 5th alarm companies staging.
Numerous other fire departments responded along with additional EMS

There were reports of injuries with people trapped on the upper floors.

The Norwich FAST Co was released from the scene at 7:13 pm

4 residents taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, with 2 more evaluated at the scene.
1 firefighter taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.
Fire appears to have started in the rear 2nd and 3rd floor area.
Estimated that 20 apartments have received damage and residents cannot return to their apartments at this time.
Red Cross is assisting them.

Living in Connecticut now would love to see a rundown on this. I don't remember a fourth alarm ever in New London. If Guilford is covering must have been a lot of out of town departments involved here.

Or certain towns just not being called

A comment on Facebook is Guilford is staffed 24/7/365. Maybe they needed a town asap for work or town coverage so they called them knowing they’d be out there in 45 minutes or maybe 30 on a 1

Not sure what volunteer towns weren’t called that could get a crew together

I can tell you that New London FD relies more on departments with on duty personnel.
That’s why a place like Norwich FD is called on the 2nd alarm for a FAST Co.
They are assured of 3-4 on duty firefighters even though it’s about a 12 mile run

Certainly the naval sub base FD was involved here. And by the way, which FD covers the Coast guard Academy? And another by the way, the New London sub base is actually across the Thames River in Groton.

I was on a Sub Tender moored at the State Pier back in the early 1980's. Did the Bank St bar runs when I could afford it and before I was married.

There were volunteer units that responded to this fire.
I know that Preston FD and Montville FD responded to this, both unmanned on weekends.
I believe they were called for their ambulances and staged near-by.
At that point Command considered this a 5th Alarm with all 5th alarm companies staging.

In addition, I believe Subbase Fire Department, City of Groton, Pequonnock Bridge in Groton ("RatPack2" is Chief there), all fulltime staffed departments responded to the scene.

Note - New London F.D. just went to "automatic voice dispatching" on Tuesday July 15th.
Interesting that I can pick them up loud and clear on my scanner upstairs but not at all on my scanner downstairs.
Same type scanner (Uniden SDS 200), same antenna, etc.
