My personal take on the Newark ship fire was that the department was not "ready" for that kind of confined space fire. They attacked it as they would any structure fire but in a car carrier with hundreds of gas and oil filled sources on rubber and confined to multiple levels of steel decking and...
Im surprised to see New Rochelle didnt get tapped for more assets, Yorktown always seemed to get the lionshare of Mt Vernon assignments from their fleet. Especially with rigs coming all the way down from White Plains, thats a haul.
Interesting to see Larchmont TL7 on the job, that rig is old...
The pics coming in today are very haunting. Shades of AA191 at O'Hare in 1979. There are also rumors the accident aircraft was delayed 2hrs for maintenance on the same engine thats now on the side of the runway.
What an awful event for all involved.
Fully loaded for Honolulu no less, thats 8+ hours of fuel at a minimum plus everything that goes to the islands themselves and onward. Heavy, heavy bird.
Condolences to the crews families and those on the ground, certainly doesnt look good.
I know L28 is an older rig but Im surprised to see it hasnt been more cannibalized for parts. Is it not FDNY practice to take OOS rigs that are heading to the farm and picking them clean of reusable parts?
For a newer rigs Id image things like tool compartment doors, bumpers, cab doors would...
Currently standing at 5 fatal and a number of injuries, some required helo ops. Local scanner reports are indicating the overturned bus had to be lifted to complete recovery.

FC per D-6. Grappler in operation.
Does that mean the junk yard grappler moving stuff to get to the fire? SOC has a lot of toys but I dont think they have one of those.
Side question, Sat-2 was there, why not use the deck gun?
Very sad news, from the overhead video it also looks like there was a team truck or team lead in the area when the blast went off.
Old-tech coking ovens are no joke, like blast furnaces they are usually attached to they rarely ever go cold and to do so requires a hell of a lot of forethought...
Grain dust is amazingly explosive in the right conditons and concentrations. I wonder if the mill lost air circ control during operarions and either didnt stop the process early enough or didnt wait long enough to restart the fans. Or both.
Either way, very sad to hear about the lives lost
My cousin worked with Tom on M1 and I met him in passing when they were stationed at Pier 40 when he was retired and stopping by to see "how the boat was doing". He was a good kind guy and definitely someone you could tell had a huge depth of knowledge and skill. RIP.

A 61-year-old man has died after he was sucked into a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine at a medical centre while he was wearing a heavy metal necklace.

Other sources are quoting a passenger aboard who may or may not have survived showing that there was no A/C, no seatback entertainment and his seat lights did not work pre-departure, pointing (allegedly) to electrical issues.
In the end, with the tail section surviving where the FDR and VDR...
