I cant believe that old Ford Purple K rig is still out and running. My father in law had the same truck that he used as a plow and it died years ago. Of course, we do live in the land of salt and snow out here on New York's West Coast
Aka OT. S#itty last minute OT no doubt but in the end well done. More than a few more moves like this one in the future till somebody discovers the beauty of Florence ADX.
Tip o the hat to the crew on duty today, making all sorts of OT for the farce of a show with Maduro. Ive been back and forth to Red Hook from Manhattan more times than I can count but I never had a helicoper ride or police escort
Im sure most have seen the social media videos of the sparklers igniting the decor and leading to this disaster. As of today it still sounds like they are pulling remains out and only a handful have been positively ID'd.
Ive worked with a number of Swiss in my career so I have no doubt there...
All the facts are not yet in but man, this has shades of the 2003 Great White/The Station club fire written all over it. What a nightmare for those involved and the families
Probably best to avoid local Galveston seafood for a bit. Glad it seems to have been contained fairly quickly but a million gallons is nothing to sniff at. Literally...
Id imagine all those Mack C's are long since gone. Even their subsequent CF and ALF rigs are probably razorblades by now, and if they arent they are probably sitting in the weeds out in the country
Somewhere deep in the internet the current owner of the tender(?) wrote about the joys of driving a short axle Mack cross country after it had sat at the FDNY yard for a few months. I'll see if I can find it but long story short it involved a lot of fuel filter replacements and probably a...
Man oh man, if there was a way to get the Fire Fighter into the lakes other than a very long, very expensive and very unlikely trip around the Canadian Maritimes that would be a hell of a meet up. All three of W.F. Gibbs designs for FDNY in the same spot. It would be something to see Fighter...
Download the AdBlock Plus browser and use that instead of your current one. Ive had it for years and while it does make certain sites inaccessible if you dont let them do ads you can always whitelist the ones you trust.
On a desktop or laptop you can add it to Google Chrome as an add-on app...
My personal take on the Newark ship fire was that the department was not "ready" for that kind of confined space fire. They attacked it as they would any structure fire but in a car carrier with hundreds of gas and oil filled sources on rubber and confined to multiple levels of steel decking and...
Im surprised to see New Rochelle didnt get tapped for more assets, Yorktown always seemed to get the lionshare of Mt Vernon assignments from their fleet. Especially with rigs coming all the way down from White Plains, thats a haul.
Interesting to see Larchmont TL7 on the job, that rig is old...
The pics coming in today are very haunting. Shades of AA191 at O'Hare in 1979. There are also rumors the accident aircraft was delayed 2hrs for maintenance on the same engine thats now on the side of the runway.
What an awful event for all involved.
Fully loaded for Honolulu no less, thats 8+ hours of fuel at a minimum plus everything that goes to the islands themselves and onward. Heavy, heavy bird.
Condolences to the crews families and those on the ground, certainly doesnt look good.
