  G-man, you are correct. I have a picture of that building that was sent to me. Quite a unique comparison and in that picture you can plainly see how tough of an operation this could be either stretching hand lines into the building or for any ladder operations. It also shows two very different kinds of buildings that require different types of tactics. Next to that 2 1/2 story frame private dwelling is a typical Bronx Multiple Dwelling.

  I hope one of my buddies who has much better high tech skills than I do, will post it for me.
 
The exposure 4 frame was the scene of a second alarm a few years back when it was vacant, these houses are set back from street and recessed into the hill of kings bridge road making them difficult to stretch up and into plus with trees in front ladder placement is also difficult. Balloon framing and age of building makes for heavy fire conditions with rapid extension into upper floors and attic spaces. Just searched and previous fire was 1/2/2011 didn't think it was 5 years ago, time flies.

How many times have I driven by them wondering when there would be a job in them.  I think they were mostly occupied in the 90's

  Thanks "FDNYSI", as well as "fdny1075", for your help in posting this picture for me.

  As "mac8146" has described this, it shows the difficult conditions encountered with this building that go beyond the regular 2 1/2 frame private dwelling. It also shows two completely different types of buildings encountered in many NYC neighborhoods. The private dwelling and the multiple dwelling. Both requiring different tactics when operating.

  This photo was passed down to me by a Fire Lt here in Connecticut. He has been a buff of the FDNY for several years. I think he uses this photo for training purposes within his own department. I think for any firefighter outside the NYC limits, if you want to learn about doing the job, 'I think the FDNY is the place to go". From brush fires to high rise buildings. They have it all.

I don't think this is the building were the fire was the other night. I believe the fire building was on the

exposure 2 side of this building


 
The actual fire building from the other night is well hidden by the trees you see in the picture of the white frame building. The front of this building was hidden by a few trees and made laddering and stretching very difficult as stated in prior posts, nothing is ever routine when you encounter these types of fires.

  Sorry, I wasn't aware of that. I didn't realize there is another building behind those trees. I'm sure that is even much tougher to deal with. I'm also guessing the area was covered with snow and ice that day.

  Here we just focus on one fire. There's about 200 All Hands or Greater Alarm fires fought every month in NYC. Each and every one a story in itself. 
 
Are the garages that are recessed into the hillside accessed from the exterior only? In other words, no entrance from the house?

That's how I remember it....the MD wasn't there when I was a FF....just beyond the MD is the Kingsbridge nursing home.
