I believe this is the building we had a bad compactor fire back in the mid 80's. We pulled up second due with smoke pushing out all over with people screaming out the windows. The chauffer of 88 Engine got on the PA and tried talking to the people.

If I remember right I believe a number of these floors are duplex and criss cross

That building has many duplex apartments. Some go up and some are duplexes down.

not only duplexes, but it is clear from the pics that there is a heavy smoke condition on the floors above, leading to many panicked residents.
