Mr and Mrs Grumpy offer our deepest regrets and sympathies to all who have been affected by this terrible situation. Parents, the school bus picks up your child @ 8AM, by 11AM you are racing to the same school to see if your child is alive. First responders faced a situation not covered by the academy or the training manual. I have feelings but I cannot find the words. God Bless them all, but a special blessing to the little ones. God did n ot need any angels today. :'( :'( :'( :'( >:( :o :( :( :( :'( :'(

As a grandfather of four, two of whom go to pre kindergarten,  I am speechless.....My heart goes out to all the children from the school and there families...

No words for this....REST IN PEACE TO ALL.....PRAYERS FOR THE COMFORT OF THE FAMILIES......MAY THE SHOOTER BURN IN HELL !

This is an unthinkable, unfathomable tragedy. I live 10 minutes away from Newtown, CT and heard about the incident around an hour after it happened.

The parents of the children who were killed are still waiting at a local firehouse(Sandy Hook Vol. FD) in a staging area, as the bodies of their sons and daughters still remain inside the school during the investigation by the State Medical Examiner's Office. My heart goes out to all those affected, and to the first responder and the members of the medical examiner's office, all of whom witnessed this first hand.

For a while this morning, the initial report was that only the gunman was killed. When the report came in around 12 p.m. that 26 were killed, 20 of them being children, I broke down. You can't even wrap your head around it. May got rest and keep the souls of those poor murdered children. My thoughts and prayers are with them, their parents, families, and the first responders.

The shooter's father, Peter Lanza is alive, living in Stamford, CT. The victim's mother was killed at her home and Adam Lanza, 20, the shooter used her car to drive to the school. Hoboken, NJ PD do not have the shooter's brother, Ryan Lanza, in custody, but he is cooperating with police. A Hoboken, NJ PD official said Ryan Lanza told law enforcement that his brother was believed to suffer from a personality disorder and be "somewhat autistic" and lived with the mother in Connecticut.

"FDNY1075k", I know that you live only about 10 minutes from this scene. For those that are not aware of where Newtown is located, it is only a few miles from the NY State border of Orange County, NY along I-84.

I guess there's nothing any of us can do but pray. I'm really not too religious but if you haven't prayed in awhile, maybe this is one time that you probadly should. How are these people ever going to get through this ?

I just want to somehow say thank you to those teachers, police officers, and first responders who had to deal with this terrible tradegy. Thank you is only a couple of words. Really, how do you thank them ?

So many people have suffered so much lately. Those that are still suffering from Storm Sandy. Last Christmas Day, the tragic fire in Stamford, Ct where one woman lost her parents and three children. Now this, all within less than 100 miles and all within one year. Many of the same people lost loved ones on 9/11. If there's anyplace in America where people have had to endure and demonstrate their strength, it's right here in the NYC Metro area.

The next days and weeks will once again require good people to bond together, as their strength is tested once again. I hope they will be able to find that strength as so many others here have recently been forced to do.

A scenario like this was always a nightmare for me when I worked as an EMT.  Any call involving kids hurts, but this is beyond horrific.  How can we even begin to try to make sense of something so senseless?

God help everyone associated with this horrible shooting.  A tragedy that I fear will continue to repeat itself.  Too bad our media will continually run stories and make this monster a hideous legend for others to be inspired by.  Movie theaters, college campuses, schools are now targets of opportunity for madmen.  Are our hospitals next?  Nursing homes?  Churches?  How do we prevent these tragedies?  I am not a gun owner or a gun advocate but I do not think better gun control is the simple answer. We seem to be raising our own covert American terrorists who seem to be resourceful, smart and mad enough to find the means to create unthinkable bloodshed.  Anyone can find information to create intruments of destruction on their smart phones and iPads.  Instant fame and world wide attention to unstable losers. This so sad.

If you send your child to a kindergarten school and he /she faces damage, where do we go from here. I flew combat missions over SEA, SVM, NVM, and Laos, I was in an intense combat environment but we knew  the situation. You send your child off to kindergarten, then you go to Target, Walmart, Toys R Us to get their Christmas gifts. You are full of joy and the expession on their face on Dec 25 is what any parent/child is what we all want. Grumpy is a grandfather, and yes Ms Grumpy is a grandma, somehow even our lifes have been affected. So many lives have been changed FOREVER, I guess Christmas will never be the same for many of us. Mrs Grump was really affected by this, she said WHY and then she cried, Grumpy joined her and I cried, yes I am a 18 month combat vet in SEA and. Yes we cried for those who will naver exploit their future. Maybe a cure for cancer, space travel,. We have decided NOT to turn on our lights in memory of those we lost, but my wife says preserve what they liked, the lights in neighboorhoods. Need some help guys

27 Year Old Teacher Vicki Soto Beautiful looking girl still at a young age put all her students in the closet to hide them/ protect them from the gunman. The gunman walked into the class room and asked her "where the kids" she told him there in the gym and he then took her life. She is a Hero for saving all her kids but its terrbile she lost her life  :'(

Not a religious person but I hope the "Supreme Being" respects her actions and brings her untold happiness for this dreadful day. And may this "Being" make eternity, well I hope you suffer. Again as I have posted "Greater love hath no love than to lie down HER life for another. She will be joining the "343" from 9-11, best of the best!!

Knife-wielding man injures 22 children in China
Reuters ? 8 hrs ago

BEIJING (Reuters) - A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on
Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country.
The man attacked the children at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province, the Xinhua news agency
reported.
Police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as villager Min Yingjun, Xinhua said. It did not give further details of the
extent of the injuries.
There have been a series of attacks on schools and schoolchildren around China in recent years, some by people who have
lost their jobs or felt left out of the country's economic boom.
The rash of violence has prompted public calls for more measures to protect the young in a country where many couples
only have one child.
In 2010, a man slashed 28 children, two teachers and a security guard in a kindergarten in eastern China.

You guys, many the best of the best will not beleive this. The Westboro Baptist Chuch will picket the funerals of those in Conn, They say they are singing the praises of God;s work. If my child was involved, well Grizzlies are kinda mean. If they plan to picket, well I do not think there are enough police and other law enforcement personnel to garuntee their safety. But then again there is law enforcement ways, Sir I got you going 32 in a 30 zone. By the way, BUBBA says hi!. New meaning to a greating from the locals, if you understand it.

Westboro church to protest at wakes of 20 children killed.

Westboro Baptist Church Says It Will Picket Vigil For Connecticut School Shooting Victims The Huffington Post | By Timothy Stenovec Posted: 12/16/2012 4:24 pm EST | Updated: 12/16/2012 4:58 pm EST Westboro Baptist Church, the controversial group known for protesting outside funerals of slain U.S. service members, announced that it will picket a vigil for the victims of Friday's Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the second largest mass killing in American history. Shirley Phelps-Roper, a spokesperson for the group and, like most members of the organization, a relative of the group's founder, Fred Phelps, announced on Twitter on Saturday the group's plan "to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment." It is unclear when the group plans to protest, although a tweet from Margie Phelps implied that it would be during a vigil that will be attended by President Barack Obama on Sunday evening. Members of the Westboro Baptist Church say that America is being punished for its acceptance of gays and lesbians. In recent days, Phelps family members have sent tweets about the Connecticut shooting that have said "God sent the shooter." Not surprisingly, the group's announcement was met with resistance online. A Change.org petition asking for Connecticut officials to prevent the group from protesting has been launched, and users of the social news and link sharing site Reddit have been discussing ways to stage a counter-protest. A Facebook event that calls for "counter-activity" to "keep any hatred from touching" the grieving families has over 10,000 attendees, but because of a bomb threat in Newtown on Sunday, the event has been cancelled. Anonymous, the loosely affiliated group of Internet "hacktivists," said that it had hacked the group's website and released personal information about the group's members, according to The Inquisitr. The Southern Poverty Law Center calls the Westboro Baptist Church "arguably the most obnoxious and rabid hate group in America," while the Anti-Defamation League calls it "a small virulently homophobic, anti-Semitic hate group." In 2011, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the Westboro Baptist Church, saying that the right to picket funerals was protected under the First Amendment. President Obama earlier this year, however, signed legislation that said that protests must be held 300 feet from military funerals. CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story indicated that WBC members would picket Sandy Hook Elementary School. The vigil as at Newtown High School.

A service dog organization has 10 golden retreivers on scene as service dogs. They do not respond to a human, instead they want the human to repond to them. dogs are beautiful, just want to be with humans. We have 2 retreiver/malmuette mix, loyal, devoted, pet me, need to lick you. These dogs are from Chicago, but they could me from anywhere. You abuse a dog, well I will make sure you regret that action. By the way NBC national did a story on our best friends.

The Respect for America's Fallen Heroes Act was signed into law by President Bush in 2006.

"The Act was sponsored by Mike Rogers, a Republican congressman from Michigan. It was introduced in large part to combat the campaign by Fred Phelps from the Westboro Baptist Church, of Topeka, Kansas. Phelps and his supporters regularly demonstrated at the funerals of American service members who were killed in the war in Iraq, on the grounds that the deaths are divine retribution for social tolerance of homosexuality. This form of protest is protected by the First Amendment.

The Act was approved by the House via roll call vote with an overwhelming majority of 408 to 3. Ron Paul (R-TX), David Wu (D-OR) and Barney Frank (D-MA) voted against the Act, opposing it on civil liberties and constitutional grounds. Twenty-one members of the House of Representatives did not vote. Barney Frank said of the vote, "I think it?s very likely to be found unconstitutional. It?s true that when you defend civil liberties you are typically defending people who do obnoxious things? You play into their hand when you let them provoke you into overdoing it. I don?t want these thugs to claim America is hypocritical.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) opposed the legislation, saying that the Act was unconstitutional and that it would not stand up in court. They said of a similar ban in Kentucky, "The ACLU lawsuit recognizes that Kentucky has an interest in showing respect and compassion for the deceased and for their families, but argues that sections of these laws go too far in prohibiting peaceful protests."

The Senate passed the bill unanimously. It was promptly signed into law by President George W. Bush on May 29, 2006.

The American Civil Liberties Union prevailed in a 2007 lawsuit challenging a similar state law in Missouri."
