1996 FDNY Training Video

Good stuff even today the basics work well. Remember that at one time if an FDNY required Engine Companies other than 1st or 2nd due on the box must use a 4 1/2" hard suction for hydrant hook ups at serious fire so the hookup supply will not collapse if the hydrant or hookup draws a vacuum or near vacuum. The bigger the fire/s, the smaller the water main, the more discharges the pumper the greater the danger of "running away from the water" and the supply line/suction hose collapsing causing a danger to firefighters operating the hoseline or large Caliber stream device. Make sure if you are responding on a multiple alarm or other serious fire that you are using the largest "Hard Suction" possible.
"It can be a matter of life or death." Captain Bob Rainey FDNY Engine 26 retired.
