Further info in regard to the probys......They go out to the field for a 1 week rotation. They wear the full orange front piece just for the week so they can be identified as a proby who has not graduated from proby school.

Upon graduation they are given the traditional black front piece with their badge number on it and the traditional proby orange insert.

While in the academy the probies are issued 2 sets of gear. 1 new set which they keep and 1 used set which they use only while in the academy. The used set is condemned and is marked with the red stripe. When the probies do live burns they can not wear condemned gear. The red stripe lets the instructor know the proby has the wrong gear on. Upon graduation the condemned gear gets returned and they get issued a 2nd set of new gear.

Was curious how long it takes Field Comm to get from their quarters in Brooklyn to the North Bronx. According to Google maps, it's about a 20 mile and about 40 minutes.

Maybe at the time of the incident (11pm) it may be a little quicker, but it is still a long haul. Can't imagine what it would be in rush hour traffic ?
