46/27 1st Due

R3 normally assigned box (meaning they are normally assigned before the 10-75)

*Assuming all rescues have those*

Thank guys! That , of course, raises the question; how many "normally assigned" boxes does Rescue 3 have and how is that determined? Seems reasonable to assign them to any box where they are closer than the first due engine- they are the neighborhood firehouse.

I remember when Rescue 3 was on 181st St. they used to answer1712 several times a week. But that was for Columbia Presbyterian Hospital which was understandable.

According to ther FDNY Operational Reference (by Jim Griffiths), "Rescue companies are also assigned on boxes if closer than the first due ladder company"... If they are not closer than the first due ladder then they are not assigned until the 10-75 is given.

The above was from a Bronx Forum discussion back in 2010 regarding R3s response to box 3127, 3rd avenue and 179th Street after they moved to their new quarters on Washington Avenue. R3s new house had leapfrogged 46/27 to the south but was still assigned 1st due to box 3127, which is north of 46/27. Apparently nobody had notified BXCO that R3 had moved. (Old US Army dictum... "There's always 10% that doesn't get the word".)

I realize it's only a block, 30 seconds, or so, but; Rescue was "assigned" and 27 Truck was first due.

Seems like in the old days the CO would turn out Rescue for something nearby that sounded like work. This would have been in the era of Rescue going on the 7-5 Signal with the Deputy.
