A couple questions for the group: In looking at the FoS pics of this job I noticed there were a couple young FFers wearing what look like are rubber boots (yellow trim) and had duct tape on the back side of their helmets with a name scribbled on.  Some didn't have a company insert on the helmet frontpiece but had an orange hexagon on their helemt.  So I assume these are fresh probies..so fresh they don't have probie shields yet.  OK that is a logistics problem but why the tape on the helmet and the yellow-trimmed boots?

The probies you speak of are still assigned to Proby school. They are detailed out to engines throughout the city this week. Day tours only. Another group was out last week. These 1 week details are done alphabetically. First guy in alphabetical order goes to Engine 1 , second guy goes to Engine 3 and so on.

Ah, I did not know they did that. A little OJT to get a taste of the job before graduation?  Thanks for the insight!
