From the FDNY Facebook page:

"Just before 5 a.m. Sunday, FDNY Marine 2 and Marine 4 responded to Eastchester Bay in the Bronx after receiving reports of a vessel with multiple people on board taking on water and sinking.
Marine 4 arrived within minutes and located a partially submerged 30-foot cabin cruiser with several people clinging to the vessel and others in the surrounding water. Members immediately began rescue operations, removing five victims from the water as additional responding units assisted.
While evaluating the rescued victims, members learned that an eighth person remained missing and was last seen clinging to a cooler drifting toward shore. Marine 4 directed Marine 2 to conduct a search of the area. Approximately a half mile from the submerged vessel, Marine 2 located the victim struggling to remain afloat and safely removed them from the water.
All eight victims were brought ashore and evaluated by FDNY EMS and Engine 89 for injuries and symptoms consistent with prolonged exposure. The coordinated response by Marine 2, Marine 4 and responding units ensured all eight people were safely removed from the water and brought to shore for medical care

Rock-filled waters aplenty around City Island. When I worked there at a boat rental agency we had at least 1 a month if not more go OOS due to running aground or banging up the engine. Not many people know how to actually read a chart anymore
