A question for matt daly-  How would you feel if that was your kid that just got pulled out of a fire, unconscious?  Filming or photographing the civilian carrying the kid down is one thing, but taking pictures of the kid as he lays unconscious on the stretcher in my opinion crosses the line.  I know i'll catch alot of flak from all you buffs on this forum, but that had been bothering me since i saw the photos you posted yesterday.  Not the right thing to do.

This is the fire service we see nasty stuff, chances are the only people that will see those photos are the "buffs on this forum". Chances are the family doesn't care (or wouldn't care if they knew) that the pictures of their child are up on this site because they're probably just thankful that he's alive. All I have to say is good job 47 you made us proud.

To catry-  I watch the local news quite frequently and I haven?t seen one shot of the kid on the stretcher.  It seems to me that the networks have just a touch more class than honorary chief daly.  By the way, can anyone clue me in to what an honorary chief is????

To RPM-  no shit ?we? see nasty stuff.  Chances are family doesn?t care?????? Youre telling me that you
wouldn?t care if some jerk off was snapping pictures of your 5 year old as he was dragged out of a fire unconscious?????????????  If that was my kid, I would take the camera out of the guys hand and smash it on the ground.  Why don?t you put aside the ?buffing? bullshit for 2 minutes and try to help out.  Maybe help put the stretcher in the ambulance, bring the O2 bottle over, stop traffic for the bus, do something else other than get in the fucking way.

Clearly some buffs look at places like the Bronx as playground to run around and watch and phototgraph fires, but believe it or not, some people call it home.

In our Dept. the filming of patients; regardless of how they became patients is prohibited. We do what we can to protect their privacy. Individuals/Depts. have been sued for the same/similar activities. Our Police Dept. will confiscate your camera if they see you taking pictures of victims/patients.  As far as the media is concerned I do not know what the line is for them however, we try to protect the patient  from being filmed.

I'll have to stick with gohomeosw on this one; in a milder fashion  8)

Matt Daly born and raised in the Bronx, not his playground, but his home. Great friend to firefighters everywhere. Not a jerk off or uncaring individual. If Matt could help, I now he would put his camera down and help. Your comments are uncalled for and inappropriate. If you have a problem PM him and express your feelings. Matt will not use this forum to bash anyone.

I don't know Matt personally but he has always been a fair minded, helpful,  and even-handed contributor to this site. Things aren't as black and white as presented bygohomeosw.  After all we all have color televisions nowadays.  Attributing motives to someone is a very slippery slope - I recognize others sometime do this on this site - at the end of the day it's just a reflection on them.

As many have suggested if you have a serious criticism of someone then a gentlemanly PM is the appropriate way to handle it.  Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion -however, it can always be done with some "class".  When you act like a bully then you have class without the "cl".

Matt - I'm proud to have the same last name!

AMEN!

I have known Matt since 1968.

He is a stand up guy and has helped to stretch many a line over the years, and would never do anything to hinder the operation.

Gohomeosw, I have been taking photos at fires for the last 35 yrs, ever since they laid FF's off back in the 70's. Since then my work has appeared in many FDNY publications. Also many co's in the Bronx use my photos for their Centennials. It would not be helpfull for me to interfere with EMS to pickup an o2 bottle or help load a stretcher into an ambulance. Now since EMS is part of FDNY I am asked for photos them in operation at different scenes, so hence my photos. If I am such a JERKOFF as you say then how am I still around. I'm sorry if I offend you but this job did allot for me as a kid in the BRONX and this my return. Have a nice day and keep safe.

Fox happens to have a large photo shot of the kid on a stretcher.

And really, should the classless be the ones judging class?  ::)

Maty Great Shots I appreciate your work
At my Dept. we try to honer the patients privacy but we can't always. We don't mind the action shots as long as the camera man doesn't get in the way. We tend to run from the PRESS camera's as much as possible because they tend to make a good story stupid. I remember during hurricane Andrew there was a press guy from another state staying at our house. I just got back in quarters from making calls for 10 straight hours without getting back in. I just wanted to lay my head on a pillow for 10 minutes. The guy wanted to take a picture of me laying in bed. He told me he would put a caption saying firefighters finally get a break. I told him if he snaps a shot with that camera the break will be in the lens. Now if he was on the scene of the 3 house fires we fought in the 60+MPH winds then snap away.

For gohomeosw:  if you don?t know what an honorary chief is, you either haven?t been in or around FDNY for very long, or you haven?t been very observant.

The FDNY Honorary Officer program recognizes those individuals who have provided support and assistance to the Department and its members, usually over an extended period of time.  The individuals involved may be technical experts in hazmat operations or radio communications, or physicians, dentists, and others in the medical field providing specialized treatment for members, often on a pro bono basis.

Honorary officers include individuals in the Red Cross and other public service agencies who provide exceptional services and financial experts who manage the Department?s Honor Emergency Fund for members needing financial assistance. Other honoraries are fire service consultants, attorneys, photographers, clerics, and business owners, as well as retired FDNY chief officers, company officers, firefighters, dispatchers, and non-uniformed personnel who continue to contribute knowledge and service for the good of the department.

Matt, I want to thank you for all your photos and the work you put into them. There will always be people that are offended by certain photos. For all different reasons. You continue to do fine work and I always look forward to seeing your pictures and YOU ARE ONE OF THE BROTHERS!

Call up E-211/L-119 and ask them what an honarary chief is. They'll proudly tell you about Norman, who's been going to their house almost on a daily basis since 1949.  Back in his younger days he used to make square bag runs to Schaffer. He also came in at 630 and  made breakfast for the brothers. This man has never been a fireman nor has he ever done time in the auxilliary, but he has done more than enough to earn his title.

gohomeosw: Settle down brother you have alot of anger issues. Buffs have been around since the days of buckets. And they'll be around till fire goes the way of the wooden water mains. And if it weren't for buffs, more than half of the history of this job wouldn't have been recorded and that would be a damn shame.
