@ 0032 on October 1, 1964 box 1671 was transmitted for a fire @ 34 Trumbull St. Engine 3 and Ladder reported on scene with heavy fire showing. Fire building was a 100 year old building, vacant, 4 story. Because of the fie conditions all members were ordered out of the building. Without warning part of the building collapsed trapping members. As others rushed to help the rest odfthe building collapsed. Five members had answered their last alarm. They were Lt McCorkle, E-24, 53 yrs old/27 years on the job, Lt Geswell, L-26 detailed to L-4,40/9, FF Sheedy, L-4, 37/6, FF Murphy, E-24, 42/7, and FF Clougherty, E-3, 31/4. FF Clougherty was the son of the Chief of the Department. In addition, Andy Sheehan, a fire buff from Milton was killed.
