Job was at 508 Harral Ave. in the Hollow. One of Bpt.'s notorious projects known as the Charles F. Greene Homes. Five 7-brick OMD's. Fire was in the basement garbage collector and extended into the garbage chute. It made for a heavy smoke condition ouyt of the open chutes on the upper floors. One victim transported w/smoke inhalation. It was originally reported as a fire on the 6th floor. Didn't sound like a fun job. This makes Bpt. for 9 Jobs this month. Another great stop by Bridgeport's Bravest.

Emmett, I think its actually 11 jobs. I've been counting on that Ct web site.
(1/3, 1/4, 1/6, 1/14, 1/16, 1/18, 1/20, 1/23, 1/23 two seperate jobs, 1/25, 1/26)

And just to explain to our friends in the NYC area, a Worker in Connecticut would be equal to an All Hands or Greater for the FDNY. It usually represents at least one line stretched and operating in a building fire.

But nothing comes close to the year 1982 (?), when Bridgeport's Squad 5 caught a total of "742" Working Fires. My brother George was a Loo on the rig then. Not bad for a city of about 140,000 people in 17 sq miles.

You're right Willy. I forgot a few. And that's correct, a job in CT, or a Working Fire is the same as an All-Hands job in New York. Bridgeport's currently the leader in the Satte for this month as far as Working Fires go. To compare, I think the Park City had about 3-4 in January 2011.

But, yes, nothing compares to the "War Years", "back in the day". Ironically, Bridgeport has nearly the same population now as it did back then, only fortunately, less fires.

By the way, Willy, what rank did your father have in the BFD? Captain?

That would be awesome if they did stay busy, but as for hiring, they just hired this past year, so most likely not for another few years at the very least.
