SI FDNY. E 165 was first unit on scene. Did not wait for military to open gate. Engine plowed right through fence. Truck L 85 followed. BC Carmody, 23 Bn, transmitted 2nd alarm on arrival. Fortunately plane did not hit buildings on SI. Wreckage was spread across airfield. Park Slope ground damage more significant.
Note - plane crash resulted in multiples on the ground in Park Slope, Bklyn and also on SI (Miller Field - New Dorp). Miller Field was an Army Airfield back then off Hylan Blvd and New Dorp Lane.
