Car fire with extension to commercial bldg
A vehicle fire spread to a popular East Meadow bar early Saturday morning, July 18, shutting down Newbridge Road in both directions as firefighters and hazardous materials crews responded, authorities said.The fire broke out around 6:25 a.m. in a parked vehicle outside The Tipsy Barrel, at 470 Newbridge Road near Amherst Street, according to Nassau County police. When officers from the First Precinct arrived, they found the unoccupied vehicle fully engulfed in flames, police said.The blaze spread from the vehicle to the building, causing minor damage before firefighters extinguished it, police said. East Meadow Fire Department crews, including East Meadow Fire Department Station 3 companies, responded alongside HazMat personnel, according to fire department information and a source at the scene.
No injuries were reported.Traffic on Newbridge Road was closed in both directions at Amherst Street while emergency crews worked to contain the fire and investigate the scene, according to a source.The Nassau County Fire Marshal and Arson Bomb Squad also responded. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said
