Engine 165 to Squad 165

Went to the Shops and was told THERE WILL NOT BE A Squad 165. However, E-165 will be getting a Squad pumper so they can carry extra equipment for HazMat and Water Rescue.

A 'Quasi-Squad' Then ?  ???

Will this end up eventually happening when the other hazmat engines come up for replacement or does 165 carry something or will carry something special because there location ?

They carry what is required of a Haz-mat engine nothing less nothing  more
Not an accurate statement..E-165 is also a cold water and surf rescue unit..They also have a motorized raft and  surfboard

Thanks, I forgot, they said  "cold water" & surf rescue equipment including a raft. ;)

E165 and E158 also carry a chain saw for tree removal duties....Not sure of the status of 165's zodiac after Sandy

When is a squad not a squad?  When the FF's do NOT get the 12% premium pay that the rest of the squad FF's get.  ;)  Maybe that's the reason the powers that be insist it will stay Engine 165 . . . even with a squad rig and squad equipment . . . ya think?

I have worked there many many times as of recently..There is no boat nor surf boards any where in the firehouse or on their rig maybe thinking bout engine 161 which has a surf board mounted to the top of the ladder rack

WOW wrong again...Their raft and surf board are in second piece.. They are indeed a surf and cold water rescue unit....And as correctly stated in a previous post they are also assigned a chain saw

What pieces would receive the 12 percent increase and how would you bid for that job in fdny

I'm honestly telling you there in NO BOAT in their house or in the second piece
The RAFT is kept deflated in their second piece ..It does go out for maintenance from time to time.. The FACT is it is part for their assigned equipment as is the surfboard

Ok well since you know SO OOOOO much sir... are you with the fdny in any fashion?.  Because if you were, you would know that a Haz-tec engine is solely for HAZ-MAT responses they do not have double duties so please inform everyone on this website of your knowledge.

O by the way..The kind of RAFT that you are speaking of are already inflated so when ever they are needed they can be deployed very quickly they also come on a trail or so they can be transported to the scene. The FDNY does not waste precious time to inflate RAFT on the scene of an emergency.

SOC Units recieve the 12% after a certain period in the Unit.... there is a wriiten criteria concerning the selection process.

Your right... I guess all the water rescue drilling they do at the YMCA in the winter  and down the beach in the summer every other week is all for nothing since because they are a HAZ MAT engine they couldn't possibly do anything other than HAZ MAT. Additionally the raft they have DOESN'T come with a trailer and it inflates on one scott bottle in less than 10 seconds. This will be my last post on this issue ...Spread as much misinformation you wish.
