As already said .....too many to single one out.....many great ones & some great times.

Disp # 7 was retired around 1970 with the death of Acting Chief Disp. Lou Turner who worked & retired from the Bronx. However, Russ Ramsey was Brooklyn Dispatcher 7 based on the old bell signals.

It's nice to know that some of the FDNY Dispatchers who have been doing such a good job for all those years, are finally getting a well deserved "pat on the back". In the heat of battle, they are so often forgotten about. Earlier in this thread, we have read just about a few of them. But yes, there are more.

Thank you to the many FDNY Disptchers that have done, and still do this very important job.

And on a side note: Wow, do I remember that summer evening when I made my first visit to the Brooklyn Communications Office back in the mid 70s. It was during the War Years, and for that one hour visit, I wasn't able to talk to anybody in there. They were just too busy.

Brooklyn CO was where I met Harry Doyle, who over the years introduced me to "others" like Warren Fuchs, and John (Jack) Calderone.

"cousin" Harry was the reason I went and applied at FDNY HQ (110 Church) for an AUX spot. One night Harry had me do the bell test, I believe it was around supper time, you guys remember the 11 bells.... that night I got that chance; A fond memory of those "war years" and my trips to the Brooklyn CO  ;D ;D

While we were cleaning out the Brooklyn CO we found a slew of old photographs that I believe belonged to Russ Ramsey. I felt they needed to be preserved forever online so I scanned them and posted them on my Flickr account. Since then other people have contributed photos. Check them out here:

A few years ago this video from Stillman's collection surfaced on Youtube featuring the brand new Brooklyn Central Office in 1922:

FDNY 1920's

Thanks Frank for those pictures and that video. I guess things have sure changed since those days.
And by the way, did anybody notice my good friend, "johnd248", riding in the front seat of Engine 248 in that video ???

The Brooklyn C.O. photos are great ... lot's of familiar faces including one excellent dispatcher who eventually went on 'the job' and I had the pleasure of working with. Good memories of the old days. Thanks for posting them.

Gotta love Brooklyn 123....

"Go with your message"

"R 2 take a mark, you're up"

"21:20 is the time, Brooklyn 123"

Yeah me too, gotta love it.

One time "cousin" Harry Doyle was on, and he knew that some of us from Philly E-81 were up "visiting" in the boro. Well, when Philly got an extra in the old days they would move to then F-2, and allow the extra to operate on that freq. But, when they did, and their repeater began heating up (those lovely old tube units), it had a bad habit of keying up the Brooklyn repeater and cause unwanted interference. The only remedy then, was to go "mixer off" to keep Brooklyn moving till they could rectify it.

Well on that particular day, knowing we were "in town"  Harry went over the air with the following message( an approximation) "to all units operating or "listening" on the Brooklyn frequency, due to an extra alarm fire in the city of Philadelphia at pier #6 on the Delaware Ave. waterfront, we will be experiencing radio interference. "

At that point knowing our own company in Philly was going to work, we quickly hi-tailed it back to Philly, being grateful for "cousin" Harry's "notification", so we wouldn't miss it. At the time of the "message" it was only a 2nd alarm. by time we got there (about 90 min. later) it had gone to a 4th, and we made it back to "go to work"

Thanks Loads Harry!!!!! ;D :D ;)

The CO was supposed to be rebuilt for EMS dispatch as a backup facility but that plan fell through. It will probably stay vacant for a while until they figure out who, or what, to put in there.

What number is George Munch? #102?

Also he was on the job before he became a dispatcher correct?
