Looks like a White/Western Star to me . . . but is that a Maxim nameplate hiding behind that piece of sheet metal at the top of the radiator?

Looking at that picture I beleive it was a spare. Look at the numbers on the door. There is a great site about Boston apparatus. It is Boston Fire Historical Society. If you have any questions sent me an e-mail, I have two great historical books on Boston from the Sparks Association. I was a member back in the day 74-79. GG

Willy D got a rare shot of a Boston rig. No It is not the "White Elephant" of Ladder 8 a 125' Seagrave. No it is ENGINE 20's rig which was a Sutphen midmount AERIAl. Apparatus placement had to do with other companies response, as well as their response area in addition to road construction. This rig is in the same category as FDNY TL14, and TL119, both Sutphens but they had 100' aerials. E-20 was a BAD idea, they lost Ladder 27.

Info on the Diamond Reo tractors. The city purchased 4 such rigs in 1968. #207 was mated with L-15 the rig later assigned to L-25. Those were 1957 Seagrave aerials. #216 went to L-8 which was a 56 Seagrave. #217 was mated to L-18 which was a 44 ALF. Finally #283 was attached to L-13, which was later assigned to L-9, a 58 Seagrave.

Nice shots, Willy D. Great work on the Boston shots.

It's amazing that all of Springfield's Maxim's are now gone. I believe Ladder 3 was the last frontline Maxim to go.

Grumpy wants to back up Willy D and support his work. His Boston work reminded me of my last days in Boston B4 Chicago.. To support Willy go to FireNews.Org, pick your city. GG
