Willy, I had no trouble.I wasn't able to read the story when I clicked on the article
I believe that their recently-released strategic plan said something to the effect of all incoming probies will be paramedics or EMTs and will in the future maintain that credential on the fire side. If I am correct on that, your suggestion will take care of itself eventuallyWe are coming up on the 100th anniversary of fire department provided emergency medical services to citizens. Now, lots of fire departments, both large and small, do an excellent job of that every day. Some have even changed their institutional names (however dopey it sounds) to reflect that EMS is now Job One.
In New York City this task has proved to be like pushing a boulder up a hill.
Lots of things need to be done to effect change. Let me make one simple suggestion to the Commish:
Mandate (by law) that the FDNY Chief of Department be a currently licensed Paramedic.
