Mount Vernon, NY (Westchester) - Fatal 3rd Alarm 09-13-12 (Pic)

Location: 40 East Birch St X Grammatan Ave/Westchester Ave
Description: Fire on the 3rd and 4th floors of a 5-story brick OMD

1937hrs- MVFD getting multiple calls for working fire 40 East Broad St. . One caller rpts can see it from the Cross County.

1940hrs- PD on location confirming working fire with people trapped. Address corrected to E. Birch St.

1941hrs- Reports of invalid trapped.

1943hrs- B/C transmitteng 10-26 (Working Fire). Req. additional EMS.

1950hrs- B/C rpts fire out 3rd and 4th floor windows in the rear.

1957hrs- B/C rpts fire 3rd floor apartment K/D. (2) L/S/O. Fire 3rd floor of a 5-story brick OMD 35X75. Transcare with (1) civilian in respiratory arrest.

2000hrs- B/C transmitting 2nd Alarm.

2005hrs- Fire showing out the 4th floor rear. 

2017hrs- Co's have fire K/D on the 4th floor.

2025hrs- Heavy fire Again from the 4th floor rear.

2032hrs- CMD req, extra Engine and Truck to the scene. M/A Eastchester Truck, Pelham Engine to scene. Report to the front with tools.

2107hrs- Req. additional Engine and Truck to scene. Stage at Grammatan X Birch. M/A Engine and Truck. Fairview L-1, New Rochelle  E-22.  WC B-18 req. companies to front of building with tools.

2110hrs- M/A Greenville Engine, White Plains Truck for cover.

 
From what I know of, White Plains is a tough city and a tough place to be a firefighter in. Manning is a big issue. Closing of companies and brownouts are a steady thing. Maybe this person would have been alive today if it happened in another city. Very sad.

You're right as always, Willy, but don't you mean Mt. Vernon and not White Plains?
 
Mt. Vernon FD is tremendously undermanned.  Luck if they have 3 FF's per company.

  Emmett, you're right. I do mean Mt Vernon. I always get them confused.
