SpaceKap is the new design on the BN and DIV vehicles.  The original design did not leave any room in the rear for additional equipment that the BN's have to drop-off at their companies.  I agree that it doesn't look too good, but if the functionality is there, so be it!
 
Hey, don't laugh.....crazy things like that can happen.....perhaps you've seen the crazy rigs they've been giving us lately.....like, uh, Ferrara rear-mounts.....
 
I actually liked the units that were posted at the beginning of this thread. Nothing special, but very nice looking. These are weird, though. I can deal with camper shells. For a short while, SDFD battalions had them (might still within some batallions far away from me). But at least make the thing fit! These look almost like slide-in ambulances that Braun was peddling for rural Alaska.

Here in Battalion 2, San Diego, we have a very typical Chevy/GMC sport ute. I like it. It works. It's busy. It looks good without trying too hard.
 
They are VERY bright at night.  Almost too bright.  You cant really look at them when lit up or  you would get blinded.

I can't even get a good picture of them at night , I tried to take one of the 27's new rig and the lights were so bright my lens couldn't focus it lol.
 
Interestingly enough it doesn't have a Vision SLR on it. I thought all the new Chief trucks were going to come with them. but when are these going to be delivered?
 
Chicago FD has taken delivery of 7 2012 4-door Ford Explorers for BC's. Man they are ugly and do not appear to have a lot of rear space. My company brought several Chevy Avia's they removed the rear seats and I can transport 400-500# of cargo safely.

A compilation of a real waste of $$ ....how many of these did NOTHING special during Sandy...& how many will be scrapped due to salt water damage both  now & down the road early on in their expected life  ?.....(not that i have a better answer but these were overkill from the start ).. if a rig becomes disposable as may be expected then do not spend so many $$ on it. 
 
"Red Square" had better stock up on brake lines. Salt water and brake lines, especially on GM's, do not go together well.
 
Noticed the 18th battalion had a modified rear,  Looks like that made more room in the back.
