Does anyone know, in roughly 2001 who came out of tillers besides 151 and 173? I'm curious about something.
Yes in January 2002 Ladder 40 was assigned a 2001 rearmout and a year later January 2003 was switched back to a tiller being assigned a 2002 seagrave

I was thinking permanantly, like 151 and 173. I heard something regarding certain tillers in that time frame and was curious if that may have played a part in it.

Yes Ladder 40 was supposed to be permanently a rear mount but from what I was told a certain politician raised a stink and 40 was switched back. That's the only other truck that I know of

Can't forget L-6, although if I recall it was a former captain that requested it ? I know Capt Jonas brought the TDA back cause it was a big mistake especially maneuvering bringing the RM into use. They got a 2000 Seagrave TDA that was later destroyed on 9/11.

Yes that's true but Ladder 6 switched back in March 1995 but around 2000 / 01 the department was trying to replace as many tillers with rear mounts as they could and these 3 trucks mentioned were the only ones that went through

Gotcha. I wasn't sure if they were a test bed so to speak. I was thinking of something that I had heard at the time, but I'm seeing that it probably didn't happen the way I thought. I thought they had swapped all of the 91 tillers to rearmounts but there's more 91s that went into a new tiller then the 3 that were swapped. Allegedly there were braking issues on at least 1 if not more of that series tillers that caused jackknifes.

Awhile back someone wanted to know when Chicago got rid of their tillers but I never saw the post. The last 5 were 1976 Seagrave 100' mated to 1976 International cabs as seen in the opening scenes of "Backdraft". T-14 3/86, T-32 11/88, T-41 6/90, T-53 5/87, and T-54 3/89.

Now that I am able to spend some time on the website after surgery I was able to find a person who had a list of assigned tillers dating back to 1977. So here goes:
Manhattan - 5, 6, 20, 25, 26, 28, 34, & 40
Bronx - 39
Queens - 130, 143, 151, & 173,
Brooklyn - 101, 104, 106, 108, 110, 118, 147, &175
Staten Island - 82 & 83

From memory L27 & 59 were the last Bronx truck's to have a tiller other then L-39.

I think I know the answer but does the city consider locations of Firehouses in choosing response and apparatus.
For example E-246=L169 quarters, when I was there all the responses had to go down 11th (the wrong way) since making a left hand turn out of Quarters was not possible. In fact the truck had to take the left hand bay just to get out. One of the worse locations for a Firehouse, blocked by Belt Pkwy north and 12th St overpass on the east. Plus on a small one way street and middle of the block. The newTiller should help. Any other houses that are located as bad.
