Would anyone happen to have the Units that made up the 56th Batt. prior to 1975. My late father was Batt. Chief in the 56th in the early 70s. I rode with him a couple of times during the Summer of 1971. He eventually went to the 18th. I'd appreciate any info on the make up. Thanks

Try Eng  42, 46, 46-2 (became 88-2), Lad 27, 27-2 (became 58), & 56 (before it moved to E-48).  Sq 1 was assigned before moving to E-45 Qtrs. after 46-2 became 88-2.

According to a unit location chart from the '80s, the companies that made up the 56th Battalion at that time were E42, E46, E48, L27, and L56.

L56 was in with E42 before they moved to Webster Ave. in 1981 and L27-2/L58 was on E. 176th St. with Squad 1 until 1974 when they moved to E. Tremont Ave. Squad 1 would follow suit a year later.

Thanks for the info. After doing some checking, it was probably the summer of 1972, not 1971. It's been over forty years and the mind gets a bit foggy. I do remember that both sections of 27 were at 176th St. where the Battalion was and 46 Engine was in the new house at the X-Bronx. Thanks again.

So Lad 58 operated out of E176 as a single truck house after 27 went to 46? I never knew that. That house on E176 has a lot of history, too bad there aren't any units running calls from there anymore.
