Engine 43 has put a nice black stripe on there rig to replace the white one

http://www.fdnytrucks.com/files/html/bronx/e43.htm

Has anyone got their own preferences on personalised rigs FDNY / Non FDNY

I wonder if the black stripe is black reflective material like the white stripe it replaced was?  If not they certainly lost a lot of visibility at night.

A neighboring department has black over red rigs with black stripes and the stripes are scotchlite reflective. They really pop when the light hits it!

that black stripe and and the black wheels look great. My personal favorite rig is a tie between E273 or E23's old rig (i think it was donated by the time warner company so thats why it got the diamond plating)

I also like them, but what about the official regulation concerning striping and colors ?

I know several departments that have the black Scotchlite and you're right, it looks very nice at night although it's not highly visible during the daytime.  I wonder if that's what they used on this rig however.

I was wondering that also, most of the other customizations do not change the existing striping or lettering.  At first glance people might not even think this truck belongs to FDNY

I'll bet that you'll have a really hard time finding someone who can actually tell you what the rules say.  Some of these things are deeply steeped in tradition and it goes all the way back to the days of volunteer companies differentiating themselves from one another.  Tradition gets left alone, as long as it's not dangerous, most of the time.  As for that black stripe, reflective or not, no big deal.  If you didn't see the big red rig to begin with, one stripe isn't going to make a difference.  I don't care what the silly NFPA says.

Obviously, things that can't be undone, or cause significant damage to the rig will get you jammed up.  However, I'm sure that the black taping can easily be taken off and the painted wheels...well, most of them probably won't last the life of the rig anyway.

Certainly another example of your lack of knowledge.  There are very strict rules about everything FDNY does or could possibly do.  Whether they all are strictly enforced or not is another matter, some things are let slide and others are not.  As far as the visibility issue goes we may all agree you should be able to see it but that's not what matters like comes to a legal issue in court when somebody sues for not being able to see the truck.

Read guy, READ!!!  I said you'd have TROUBLE finding someone who knows those rules.  Not that they don't exist!  Holy S.....

Not that I am aware of with 23.

There is a regulation in the department when it comes to personalizing the rigs. It's from the 1970's, IIRC. There was a limit on height and width of the logo. Other rules, common sense stuff like nothing offensive, etc. was thrown in. I'll see if I can track it down when I get back to work.

As I posted earlier E 23 will be simiilar to the previous rig. It will be goldleafed and diamond plated. FR P.B. the chaufuar who did the original rig is going to do this one. Time-Warner donated the 2001 rig but the customizing was done Paul and other members.

Are they going to put the bell on the front fender?

I really must agree with Bulldog............The job is real funny regarding what the members do to there assigned apparatus.......I believe the biggest and most serious issue is the electrical aspects.........I believe there are major issues if company's adds any type of lights to there apparatus, or anything in that prospect. This is what I was to believe when the mechanic was at our quarters and we spoke for a while over a cup of coffee.......As far as personalised, it really depends on the company commander. I know that when we got our 2003 seagrave, I approached the Capt and suggested a few things to do to make the rig stand out....... I did some pinstriping around the cab, got some lettering for both front doors " Never Forgotten 343 ", put 7 inches letters between the front suction " LONE WOLF" and changed the bumper  8 inch numbers from 319 to a half moon Engine Company with 319 in the middle. The night I did this ADC Phiffer came over for dinner to wish the Lt. good luck on his retirement ( They had worked in lower Manhattan together , and they are neighbors ). The chief even gave a that a boy when I finished it before he left that night.

The real reason I stated the above is that the shops always do a great job on the rigs. When we got into a accident back in Nov. 2010, the rig had to go to a body shop for the repairs. When we got the rig back in Jan of this year, I noticed that all the red paint on the entire front cab had been painted. New door numbers were put on of course, but what impressed the members the most was the shops replaced the half moon Engine Company 319 on the front bumper and replaced the Lone Wolf lettering on the front between the suction.  A very big thank you to the shops for a well done  and professional job.  Again a big thank you to the shops from the members of 319  THE LONE WOLF

Just curious, my son and I have the Diamond Plate 1/32 E-23. This is the rig donated by Time-Warner because they have several properities in E-23 still area. However my rig does not have the bell mounted on the officer's side, when did this modification go into effect. Irregardless it is a sharp looking rig ;D
