Description: Heavy fire in the rear of a 3-frame dwelling
Shortly before 1:45 yesterday, PCFD was dispatched for a reported structure fire on West William St with multiple calls being received by 60 Control. Rescue 40 Captain (A. Sposta) arriving on scene first, confirmed the fire and requested a 10-75 (Working Fire) to be transmitted. With heavy fire conditions found in the rear of the structure, crews stretched in the front door of the residence. Car 2391 (Chief Sposta) was notified of a possible occupants trapped in the basement. Crews continued Primary Searches of all 3 floors turning out to be negative.
Due to rapidly deteriorating fire conditions, the hotter temps, and exhaustion of crews, a 2nd alarm was transmitted. A Mayday was transmitted by crews on the roof due to structurally compromised roof components. West Harrison’s TL9 assisted in the safe removal of the potentially hazardous condition resulting in the mayday.
The fire was placed under control within an hour and a half. The Westchester County Cause & Origin Team was requested to the scene to determine the origin. The cause was determined to be due to an air conditioning unit.
As usual, we’d like to extend many thanks to our many mutual aid companies for their assistance. Two members unfortunately did receive minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Final Port Chester units cleared the scene shortly after 4pm.
